The business course that’s in a class of its own

Even after years of operating, running a business is still a daily learning experience, and it’s crucial to find the middle ground between doing what you love and being paid to do it. After all, it’s not enough to have fantastic ideas - to be a successful founder, you’ll need to be able to do everything else, too. We’ve written a review of a good educational platform and that gives founders and founders-to-be alike the tools they need to grow, scale, and watch your businesses thrive.

Enter Business Class: a seven flight course that extends over eight weeks, helping business owners to immediately implement the learning opportunities extended by Sophia Amoruso, the chief flight attendant, course creator and head of the clothing empire, Nasty Gal.

Embarking on this digital course, founders are given the tools necessary to build their business like a professional, learning how to establish an iconic brand, enforce marketing strategies that work, tackle financial and legal issues with confidence, and take on leadership roles without breaking a sweat. Everything necessary to become a fantastic business owner, distilled into ‘legs’ complete with downloadable workbooks and homework.

What happened when we joined?

From the get go we were welcomed by thousands of other businesses owners (loungliers) within The Lounge (Business Class’ social sharing space and portal where you can find live recordings to all modules).

The Business Class community provide help on all aspects: crafting the perfect pitch with an expert copywriter (Sophia’s mum!), support with navigating the financial and legal aspects of running a business, as well as new marketing ideas that we didn’t yet consider. Being invited into a community space and meeting other likeminded women who were at the beginning of their journey provided an sense of reassurance - connecting and sharing, it felt like a playground.

Sophia shares valuable lessons based on her 17 years as a serial entrepreneur building successful businesses; her facts and experience are invaluable. The opportunity to learn from her mistakes, and to work with other students, being exposed to a variety of different challenges means countless opportunities to learn how to solve problems that are all too likely to arise as you move through the construction and ongoing security of your business. Further, we were able to meet other people to network with and learn from—both online and IRL here in London.

Within a year of being a part of this community we improved our own business, built new strategies that helped us to increase our revenue and improve our customer service offering.

Within the first year we also off-set the cost of the course thanks to meeting a business with a curated marketplace, who needed our services in branding and design.

Three years later we’ve worked with four other female founders who we met during live calls hosted within the lounge. We’ve also met some friends based here in London. The ROI is huge on so many levels.

What’s so good about it?

✈️ The opportunity to return to previously completed modules allows you to learn something new every time - revisiting the videos that might not have resounded on first watch, but are sure to become invaluable as you move through your business journey.

✈️ The live calls and Q&A sessions with Sophia are a good way to glean further insights. She introduces guests such as the founders of Glossier and Away, who discuss their experience.

✈️ The community; we’ve met friends, colleagues and clients within The Lounge. It keeps giving!

✈️ Airline puns.

A summary of the modules (flights) are as follows:

Flight 1: The Jet Fuel.

Flight 2: Passenger Check-in

Flight 3: A Brand That Soars

Flight 4: Ground Control

Flight 5: Hark! It's Marketing

Flight 6: Loyalty Points

Flight 7: The Team On The Ground

Would you recommend it?

Without a doubt. When we like something, we rave about it. Business Class goes above and beyond and the support that the team give alongside all modules has been outstanding.

It helped us pull together packages built with our clients in mind, collaborate with other members of Business Class to bring their brands to life, and gain feedback from other members of the Lounge to ensure we’re always producing the best work possible for the people we work with.

Using Business Class feels like discovering a toolbox - one that makes sense, and is always there when you need it. With lifetime access to the Lounge and an extensive collection of modules at our fingertips, it’s a great way to spend downtime brushing up on business skills, so that next time a challenge pops up, we have the know-how to overcome it and ensure our landing is anything but bumpy.

How much does it cost?

Alexandra Lunn

I used to roam around my dad’s wood workshop in West Yorkshire, terrorising his colleagues and making wooden sculptures. I’d accompany him to the demolition sites of the old mills of Manchester and Leeds that were being pulled down; everything within the mills was meant to be burnt, however, he’d salvage wood, bobbins, and cast iron objects and use the materials to make floors and furniture out of the reclaimed timber and other items. The idea that you could make something out of nothing interested me.

I work with developers, designers, and other creatives to create stand-out visual identities, websites, and marketing.
